Photographers

Hey ladies, one of our moms Debbie posed a great question. I will throw it out there and you can reply via comment at the bottom of this post. Debbie writes:

"My question is regarding getting professional baby pictures taken. Who's good, local, worth the money, not worth the money, etc. I don't know if I should go to a local mom and pop shop or  JC Penny's type place".

Ok ladies, comment away! Who have you had good/back luck with? What's worth your hard earned $$$$?

I have done monthly professionals of both my girls for their first year of life, then every 6 months or so after that. I'm kind of a picture addict... So here is my rundown:

JCPenny at Washington Square: awesome value esp if you clip the coupons!! they do a good job of regular indoor shots but you wait 2 weeks to get the pics back.

Portrait Innovations: new place at Tanasbourne mall where you get the pics back RIGHT away, and they have a quarterly special of $9.99 for like a zillion pictures (of one pose) - i think beyond the special package they are a little pricier, but I think they do a good job on indoor shots too.

Flash Digital Portraits: at Vancouver & Clackamas mall, pricier but I think DEFINITELY worth it for more creative shots, family shots, and they will mail you the pics for a fee if you don't feel like driving to pick them up (also clip coupons for these guys too!)

Since i do pics so often, I use the cheaper places more often and then go to Flash once a year or so for family pictures. They are the best... i've always wanted to do outdoor pics, but I have no experience with someone besides these places. Good luck!!

I see that Lisa took my answer but I highly recommend Portrait Innovations.

Darin Pfeiffer from Westport is also launching his own business. He's very talented!

I've taken my girls to JC Penny and I've had some exceptional pictures taken there - I've also used Sears - and I wasn't as impressed - not sure if it was the day or the photographer or a combination... My younger sister Haley also is a fantastic photographer and has taken many great pictures of my girls. I would have to say any pictures are great pictures - they always capture the moment.... :)

JCPenny, Sear are ok, but you have to be really careful not to fall for big packages, and make sure you pick the right time for your baby to take pictures I would chose the first appointment in the day so you don't have to wait.

I have also used 365 days portraits and they come to your house, very nice feature. We had some great picture done with them, and we can use all props around the house we want plus you can do family shots too. Very relaxed and to me worth the money. http://our365portraits.com/

There is also Darin Pfeiffer at westport he take amazing picture (he took all the India trip pics)

I have also seen on a facebook page of a friend from here, a local photographer's business who is a friend of hers, and the pictures were really cute. The place is called Blue Root Imaging and although I have no idea of their costs it would be worth looking into as the pics were nice...I think I found their web page just by searching the business name. I can't wait to hear how your pictures turned out Debbie!

Thanks for all the amazing feedback! I made an appointment at Portrait Innovations tomorrow. I figured that was a safe and easy place to start.
